What’s WIST?
Imagine a room where you could go any
time you wanted, and within that room was the collective knowledge of every
woman motorcyclist in the world. Would you go?
Well, there is such a room. And we want to fill it with all the
intelligence, experience, knowledge and ideas that female motorcyclists can
contribute.
We invite you to that room. Come share your knowledge or ask a
question.
All women are invited. All bikes are invited. All that is
required is that you be a motorcyclist, or plan on learning.

WHAT THIS
LIST IS:
WIST
is an online discussion group for women motorcyclists. WIST is an email
digest, meaning that subscribers send email messages ("posts") to
the list address; posts are then assembled into one email document
("digest"), which is sent to subscribers once a day (or
thereabouts).
WIST
is a place to:
- Exchange ideas about
motorcycles, riding, gear, safety, rider training, racing, clubs and
associations.
- Hear about or post
riding events or races in your locale.
- Meet other women
riders in your area and abroad, and create rides and get-togethers.
- Locate great roads,
campgrounds and eats while touring.
- Share touring, riding
and racing stories.
- Sell or buy used gear,
parts or motorcycles.
- Ask mechanical
questions or find a trustworthy dealer in your area.
- Nurture the growth of
beginners and add to the experience of seasoned riders.
- Make lifelong friends.
We are a family and we
have a lot to teach one another.
The WIST
list is open to men. We ask only that men be considerate of the nature
of WIST as a women's discussion group. This is to preserve the rather
uninhibited quality of WIST discussions.
WHAT THIS LIST IS NOT:
- It is not a place to
flame or bash a bike someone else rides, men, or another's opinions or
ideas.
- Slurs regarding race,
gender, age, sexual orientation, religious belief, marital status or
disability are not welcome.
- Talk of politics not
relevant to motorcycling is unwelcome.
- This is a non-profit
list, so advertising your business is not appropriate. However,
“if you are an established subscriber with a product or service
topically relevant to the list you're free to post an announcement about
it so long as it is brief, low key, free of commercial hype and you post
it once…” (from the Magpie FAQ).
- WIST is not a place to
pick up a date. Respect others’ privacy and keep the romancing
off-list.
Any
breaches of etiquette will result in removal from the list.
Tips for Posting to WIST:
- Please
keep your topics specific to motorcycling.
- Because it is
a digest, you have to type in a subject when posting. Try to make the
subject descriptive so subscribers may easily skim digest contents.
- When posting
notices of local events, please put the locale in the subject line.
- If you use
"quoting" when responding, you'll need to keep the quotation brief-- just so
we get the gist of the original message. The digest program will kick back
(bounce) your mail to you if there is too much quoted material.
- If you are
responding to a question, ask yourself this: "Should I respond to the list or
directly to the person?" Some discussions are better offline; just use your
best judgment.
- Please
make sure the email is in PLAIN TEXT ONLY format.
Any MIME or HTML posts will be automatically bounced by the system and will
not be posted.
Privacy
Notice:
WIST administration will not sell or otherwise abuse subscribers' email
addresses or posts in any manner other than what's required for normal
operation of the list, unless express written permission has been given.
Please be aware, however, the reality of the internet is that nothing is
truly private. In WIST's case, the digests may be read by anyone who
browses the Magpie archives. A general rule for any email is, before
pushing "Send," consider that your words could eventually end up in
a newspaper.
